Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 21, 2026
1. What we collect
We collect only what we need to run PawsPins. Depending on how you use the app, that includes:
- Account. Email address; password (stored by our auth provider, not readable by us as plain text) if you use email/password; Google account identifiers if you sign in with Google; display name; optional avatar and bio; when you accepted the Terms/Privacy Policy; and account status (for example role or ban state used for moderation).
- Pins you create. Caption, optional description, optional city label, tags, optional map coordinates (latitude/longitude), and images you upload.
- Community activity. Upvotes, comments, and reports you submit (including the reason you give when reporting).
- Notifications. In-app notification records about activity on your Pins (for example upvotes, comments, or moderation outcomes).
- Feedback. Messages you send through in-app feedback, if you use that feature.
- Security & activity logs. Events such as logins, logouts, password-reset requests, posting, upvotes, comments, reports, and admin actions. For login and password-reset related events we may store an IP address to help secure accounts and investigate abuse.
- Session cookies. Cookies that keep you signed in and, briefly, a consent cookie when you agree to Terms before Google sign-in.
2. How we use it
We use this data to operate the community map, show your Pins and profile information to other users as described below, send in-app notifications about activity on your content, moderate abuse, keep accounts secure, and improve reliability. We do not sell your personal data.
3. What is public on the map
Active Pins (caption, description, city, tags, images, and any map coordinates you attach), your display name and avatar, and public comments are visible to other users of the app. Pin images are stored so they can be shown on the map and may be publicly readable by URL.
Pinning a location publishes that place. Do not pin your home or someone else's private address unless you intend that location to be public. See our Terms of Service for location-risk rules.
4. Device location (browser)
If your browser asks for location permission and you allow it, PawsPins may use your device position only on your device to center the map or help you place a Pin. We do not continuously upload your live GPS track. Coordinates are stored on our servers only when you choose to attach a location to a Pin you create or edit.
5. Moderation of content
Posts, images, and comments may be hidden or removed by you (for your own Pins) or by moderators. Hidden or removed content is no longer shown publicly; related records may remain for audit, safety, and abuse prevention.
6. Storage & providers
Authentication, database, and file storage are provided by Supabase. Session cookies keep you signed in. If you use Google sign-in, Google also processes your authentication under Google's policies.
7. Your choices
You can update your profile, and update or soft-remove your own Pins from the dashboard. You can deny or revoke browser location permission at any time in your device or browser settings.
You can permanently delete your account from Dashboard → Settings → Danger zone. Deletion removes your profile, sign-in credentials, Pins, comments, uploads, feedback, and related personal data from the live product, and clears your session. Storage files under your account are removed when possible.
After deletion we may retain limited security and abuse records without your name or email — for example activity logs (with the user link cleared) and reports you filed (with the reporter link cleared) — for a reasonable period to investigate misuse. Contact the project maintainers if you need help correcting data or if deletion is unavailable for your account type (for example admins).
8. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do.
